You can make the backers and the noses ahead of time, then make the front pieces like this as orders come in during the holiday rush!

Free Template: Reinforced Open Box 💪

This week we also released a free Reinforced Open Box template.

This is a variation of our standard Open Box with Finger Joints where the bottom piece is slightly raised and then slots into the sides. This gives it more strength than a standard press-fit box and enables it to hold more weight.

Like the standard Open Box, you can customize:

  • The dimensions: width, depth, and height
  • The material thickness
  • The tab size
  • The kerf compensation

If you’ve never made a laser cut box before, I recommend watching Federico’s Ultimate Guide to Laser Cut Boxes video where he walks you through the whole process with lots of tips along the way!

Video Tutorial: Make A **Name Christmas Tree Ornament with Tails 📹**

In Federico’s livestream last week, he answered Julie O B’s request for a Christmas Tree Ornament with names and tails.

He demonstrates how to create the tree shape from scratch, uses our newly released Connected Text with Tails component, and shows how to present the project as a template.

Workshop at Helsinki Design Week 🔺

Ena Naito and Forrest Oliphant used Cuttle for a workshop at Aalto Fablab as part of Helsinki Design Week. People in the workshop made cardstock lanterns with kombucha vegan leather as the light diffuser. It’s fun to see how makerspaces can bring together people with experience with different tools and materials. They shared the design on the project page, as well as tips about laser cutting cardstock.
