Laser Craft Fest 2024
We’re so happy to once again participate (and sponsor!) Laser Craft Fest.
This is a free virtual event featuring three days of Laser Cutting workshops from some of the best teachers in the community, including our own Federico Tobon.
You’ll need to grab your free ticket before the event. Then, from September 10 - 12, each day will include a series of video workshops. You can watch them live or on replay for 24 hours.
If you would like early and lifetime access to all the workshop videos, you can also upgrade to the All Access Crafters Pass. There’s currently an early bird discount for that, so grab it today!
Free Inlay Earring Templates
Today we’re releasing three free Earring templates!
How to make press-fit inlay earrings
These designs use press-fit inlays.
Press-fit inlays are when you cut shapes from two materials — like wood and acrylic — then you press-fit them together.
The tricky part has always been sizing the shapes so that they fit perfectly together without glue — the dreaded “kerf compensation”.
But we’ve made it really easy!
Check out Federico’s thorough video tutorial.
He shows how to determine your machine’s kerf settings using our free Inlay Kerf Tester.
Once you find your kerf setting, just type that on any of our free earring templates to generate your SVG, ready to cut.
Design your own Inlay Earrings in the Cuttle Editor
Want to design your own inlay earrings?
Federico has a new tutorial on how to do that too!
We’re releasing a free “Inlay Kit” which is a starter project for designing your own inlay projects in the Cuttle Editor.
You compose your design from two different colors (your two materials). Then the kit automatically splits your design into separate pieces and applies the kerf compensation.
I recommend watching Federico’s video to learn more!
Earring hooks
After you’ve cut your designs from wood and/or acrylic, you’ll need to add earring hooks.
We partnered with Katie from Monarch Pine Jewelry Supplies to offer 10% off their curated selection of jewelry findings — use code CUTTLE10 for the discount!
We were especially excited to learn that Monarch Pine sells earring hooks specially designed for the laser community that don’t require jump rings.
Instead you just open the loop on the hook itself with your pliers, put it through the hole (they’re designed for 1/8” wood or acrylic), and close the loop.
Katie tells us this ball style and minimal style are especially popular with laser earring makers.
